As 2014 preparations pick up speed all around Brazil, a central theme to many of the projects is sustainable design, a factor essential to much of the funding available through the federal government´s BNDES (National Development Bank) and Caixa public banks.
The main requirements apply to new developments and involve following Green Building and LEED principles and utilising modern environmental approaches such as reduction of building materials, solar energy and water saving techniques.
Importantly, a basic list of LEED principles is currently being prepared to be checked against all stadium project. A similar initiative is also being applied to transport projects, with the overall idea being to utilise the 2014 Cup to increase the use and awareness of sustainable solutions.
