More sporting promises from president elect

In a follow up to last week´s report on the Brazilian election, the country´s newest president, 62 year old Dilma Rousseff, has provided further details of her encouraging plans for the Brazilian sport industry in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup and Rio 2016 Olympics.

Speaking exclusively with sport and football magazine Lance, Dilma made a number of commitments about her will to turn the country into a top sporting nation, including:
- strengthening the Brazilian football club system to ensure leading players remains in the country, a key part of which will be the creation of a “National Secretariat” for football as well as security of football supporters.
- continuing to build a national network of training centres
- improving legislation and state services supporting high performance athletes
- building a “sport city” somewhere in the country dedicated to athlete development

As noted previously, the grand plans promise significant opportunities for foreign collaboration as Brazil attempts to compete with the world’s best across a wide range of sports.
