Australia's sports excellence to inspire Rio 2016 Olympics preparations

Officials from the Brazilian Ministry of Sport's High Performance Secretariat visited Australia from the 2nd to the 6th August to learn from the Australian experience in hosting the Olympic Games in 2000 and developing high performance athletes. The officials visited sports installations and training centres in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Canberra an Sydney.

The mission was organized by Austrade Sao Paulo, and accompanied by BDM Fabio Nave. In Australia, the program was co-ordinated by Austrade in conjunction with AISES, Trade Queensland and the ICN (Victoria). The delegates visited some of the most moderns stadiums in Australia, including Suncorp Stadium, AAMI Park, Sydney Olympic Stadium and Melbourne Olympic Parks as well as the Australian Institute of Sport, Queensland Academy of Sport, Victorian Institute of Sport and NSW Institute of Sport.

The delegates concluded the visit by saying that what they saw in Australia has been extremely useful in providing a model for what needs to be in Brazil in the coming years and created a strong basis for enhanced co-operation between Australia and Brazil in sports development.
