Lula points to lack of public sport spaces and asks for greater effort

In a telling speech at the third annual edition of Brazil´s National Sport Conference, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has made some important comments about the country´s serious shortage of public spaces available for sporting activities and the necessity for city and state governments to address the situation as soon as possible.

Lula said that they have to convince the close to six thousand city councils all around the county that sport must be a more viable option for Brazilian youth in particular. Beyond occasional soccer pitches, usually of a low standard, it is difficult to access even basic public sporting facilities in many Brazilian cities.

Given Australia´s active culture and strong experience in incorporating sporting facilities in public spaces, a shift in Brazil´s philosophy in this area should hopefully create a range of opportunities for knowledge sharing and business interaction.
