Dock redevelopment set to leave the paper

In a great demonstration of just how extensive the preparations and associated business opportunities are for Brazil´s 2014 World Cup, this week sees the launch of an extensive harbour upgrade in Fortaleza, capital of the state of Ceará on Brazil´s north-eastern coast.

Brazil’s secretary of ports, Leônidas Cristino, has set the timetable for the tender processes for the ‘Fortaleza Harbour’ project, which is to be ready in time for the 2014 Cup. The initial stage will be the economic and environmental viability studies as well as the environmental impact report, which will all go out to tender in February, with the construction tender scheduled for July.

The Fortaleza Harbour project, one of seven port redevelopments marked for coastal and riverfront 2014 Cup host cities, is expected to cost R$105.9 million, with funding already locked in as part of the World Cup-specific ‘Accelerated Growth Program’.

The work involves new piers with commercial and entertainment installations, a passenger terminal and related operational facilities.
