Cup training centre options set to be defined by June

Following on from our first report earlier this week on the wide range of training centres to be developed across Brazil for the 2016 Olympics, we now cover FIFA´s requirements for the 2014 World Cup, which should present a number of potential work opportunities for Australian business.

The Cup Organising Committee has already opened the submission period for facilities interested in being official training centres for the event and has so far received 185 proposals covering 145 cities in 22 states. The centres are to host the teams competing in the Cup and will go through a rigorous selection process where FIFA will analyse a range of aspects, including distance to airports, availability of hotels and of course the quality of the training facilities themselves.

The first selection phase where the official catalogue of training centre options will be developed should be concluded by the end of May, with at least 64 centres to be included, however organisers hope for around 90 alternatives. Following the selection, the centres will then be visited by potential World Cup teams to gain an idea of the possibilities for the event. Final choices will not be made until after December 2013 when the draw for the event will be known.
