Training for tourism boom as events approach

Brazil´s Ministry of Tourism has released some impressive figures covering expected training numbers across a range of sectors in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup. Minister of Tourism Pedro Novais informed the Senate last week that they predict 306,000 people will participate in the special “Bem Receber Copa” (Receive the Cup Well) training series by 2013, with about R$440 million to be invested by the Ministry.

The idea is to have 150,000 courses completed by June 2012, mainly in the 12 host cities for the 2014 Cup. The programs cover various roles across many sectors including airports, hotels, adventure groups, bars and information providers.

Furthermore, the training includes the special “Olá,Turista!” program, which will qualify 80,000 tourism workers in English and Spanish in partnership with education group the Roberto Marinho Foundation.

The more specific training requirements are expected to offer up some key opportunities for international specialists.
